Otterbein Cruises to 23-5 Victory Over Wilmington

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's lacrosse team continued its strong start to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Wednesday night at home, turning back visiting Wilmington College by a score of 23-5 at Memorial Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Cardinals wasted no time jumping ahead, outscoring the Quakers 7-0 in the first period and employing multiple players across the lineup. Otterbein doubled up that margin in the next quarter and went to halftime leading 14-0.

  • Otterbein added nine more goals in the second half, holding a 17-0 lead midway through the third and coasting to the victory in front of a nice weekday crowd.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • A program record 17 different players scored for Otterbein, tying the program's single-game best from 2017 against Heidelberg.

  • Five Cardinals contributed multi-goal nights, headlined by a hat trick from freshman Travis Barr and two from classmate Kyle Katigbak.

  • Faceoff specialist Mike Roman, the reigning OAC Defensive Player of the Week, went 8 of 10 in the early going before getting the rest of the night off. Thomas Baert helped keep the success going by capturing 9 of 15.

  • Goalies Bryce Perram and Trevor Rusk split time in the cage as starter Zachary Groene took the evening off. Rusk made seven saves in the second half, including a nice stop on a man-down sequence.

  • Otterbein ripped off a season-high 60 shots and captured 46 ground balls, including six from Baert and another five from freshman Dekaider Jackson.

UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will play another Saturday night game, this time on the road in Tiffin against Heidelberg at 7 p.m.
