Men's Soccer Holds Off Ohio Wesleyan, Escapes Victorious, 1-0

Box Score DELAWARE, Ohio- Otterbein University men's soccer only needed one goal to emerge victorious on the road at Ohio Wesleyan, 1-0. The Cardinals (4-2) used a sound defensive effort and steady goalie play to keep the Bishops (3-2-1) off the scoreboard in Wednesday night's victory.

Collin Hoffmann made his second consecutive start in goal for the Cardinals, and was once again called upon early to keep the opponents off the board. In just the 10th minute of action the Bishops got their first quality chance of scoring from the boot of Hector Gomez, but Hoffmann stood tall and showed no rust making the save look easy.

Otterbein took seven first half shots to the Bishops nine, as neither team could beat the opposing goalie and both teams remained in a deadlock heading into the half, 0-0.

As they have done so many times before this season, the Otterbein offense found its rhythm in the second half showing again just how quickly it can strike. At 48:45 freshman Will Isaac used a nice move to slip past his defender and beat the OWU keeper J.P. Baughman.

That was all the Cards would need on this night as Hoffmann and the defense stood tall the remainder of the game, turning the host Bishops away at every chance. Hoffmann went the distance for the Cardinals by making four saves, as OWU finished with a slim 19-17 shot advantage.

The Cardinals will return to action this Saturday for Homecoming weekend hosting Brockport, with first kick scheduled for 7 p.m.
