WESTERVILLE, Ohio- After over an hour of rain delayed the match, a physical, tactical and emotional game played out inside of Memorial Stadium Saturday night between Otterbein (5-2) and visiting #22 Brockport (5-2). The Cardinal defense posted its third straight shutout on its way to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The rain soaked turf seemingly played a key role in the sluggish start to the game as neither team was able to find their footing.
  • The Cards played a physical brand of soccer tonight, culminating in three yellow cards for both sides.
  • Collin Hoffmann stepped up once again early for Otterbein, making two back-to-back saves within just two second of each other to keep Brockport off the board in the first half.
  • Hoffmann made four first half saves as the two teams hit the locker rooms to regroup locked up at zero.
  • The second half quickly became a grind it out affair as both teams played the ball in the middle of the field, and only took five shots a piece in the final half.
  • One goal was all the Cardinals would need as Eric Stucky was able to send a cross pass to a streaking Gabe Sharrock who skillfully found the back of the net at 81:16.
  • Clearing the ball at every chance Otterbein was able to keep the Brockport offense at bay and off the board as the clock ran out on the 21st night of September.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • In his first three games back in net for the Cardinals Collin Hoffmann has yet to allow a goal, making 18 saves.
  • The Cards last win against a ranked opponent came on November 12th of 2017 in the NCAA tournament against then ranked #13 Kenyon.
UP NEXT:
  • Otterbein will be back in action Wednesday when they welcome Denison to Memorial Stadium at 7 p.m.
