WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Final competitive action for the Otterbein volleyball program this fall took place on Wednesday night, as Team OTTER overcame an early setback to emerge victorious over Team CARDY inside the Rike Center.
No fans were in attendance once again for the intra-squad showdown, but both sides delivered momentum-changing stretches and nice efforts to conclude the semester.
Team OTTER, perhaps embracing a bit of an underdog mentality, grabbed the early momentum by leading the first set for most of the way. At conclusion, 25-20 triumph would propel them into an early advantage.
Team CARDY rallied from that point, dominating the second set to win 25-15 and then pulling out a closer third frame. The group broke up a close score midway through to take a 15-10 lead, but things remained tight down the stretch. A few key swings off the right arm of freshman
Morgan Hartman would ultimately be the different, settling CARDY at 25-20 and providing the 2-1 match victory.
Following the same format as last week, the sides played an extra portion of a fourth set to 15 points. CARDY won that matchup as well, 15-12, after a few timely service aces.
Sophomore
Carlie Craycraft dished out 34 assists in leading her team to victory once again. She, Katie Fisher and
Madison McCoy finish the pair of exhibitions as double winners after also being on the winning side last week.
Sophomore
Anna Donner narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with a match-best 10 kills to go along with nine digs. McCoy (8) and Hartman (7) combined for another 15 kills offensively.
Julia Vermilion and
Amber Greeley both registered nine kills to lead Team OTTER, centered around 27 assists from
Kailey Mishler and a match-high 18 digs in the back from
Hillary Sterett. SEE FULL BOX SCORE BELOW!
Otterbein will enter the holiday break preparing to ultimately play the spring Ohio Athletic Conference schedule come March 12, with the opener at Mount Union.
