Cardinals Fly Past Polar Bears with Second-Half Flurry

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's basketball team pulled away Friday night to deliver a second-straight blowout victory, comfortably beating Ohio Northern 73-48 inside the Rike Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Otterbein held ONU to just nine points in the first quarter, as the Polar Bears shot just 4 of 12 from the field and committed six turnovers.
     
  • Ohio Northern began the second period strong, clawing back to gain a 21-20 advantage nearing the midway point. The Cards regrouped behind consecutive three-pointers from Abby Zerkle and ultimately carried a 35-26 lead into the break.
     
  • Angelia Jackson became the story of the third quarter, scoring 11 points in a frame where Otterbein opened on a 13-0 run. The Cards scored 23 points in the period and never looked back.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Jackson and standout freshman Katie McCrary both dropped a game-high 19 points, combining to shoot 16 of 27. Zerkle added 11.
     
  • Ohio Northern shot just 7 of 38 in the second half, scoring 11 in both quarters.
     
  • The Polar Bears had 21 offensive rebounds, but shot just 25 percent for the night and 4 of 24 behind the arc.
     
  • The Cardinals, likewise, buried double-digit trifectas for the second game in a row. They were 11 of 25 from long range.
     
  • Both teams registered 27 bench points, spearheaded by McCrary on the home side.
 
UP NEXT:

Otterbein will hit the road for a rematch with Ohio Northern, traveling to Ada Saturday evening for a tip at 6 p.m.
