WESTERVILLE, Ohio- The Cardinals once again found themselves in a back-and-forth battle Wednesday night, this time with the visiting Polar Bears of Ohio Northern University (ONU).

The Cardinals would fall behind early before rallying to take a 2-1 lead. The advantage would quickly evaporate, resulting in a 2-2 double-overtime finish.

The Cardinals now stand at 6-0-2 inside of the Ohio Athletic Conference and 12-0-4 overall. The draw moves Otterbein and John Carroll into a tie for first place in the conference.

John Carroll will wrap up regular season play on Saturday when they take on Wilmington, the third-place team in the OAC. Meanwhile, the Cardinals will travel to Capital for a 7 p.m. start with the Comets, who sit in fourth place.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • ONU got on the board first in the 27th minute when a tick-tack-toe passing play set up Seth Gundlach for the score.

  • The Polar Bears would take the one-goal advantage into the half, holding a 10-8 advantage in shots.

  • Otterbein struck first early in the second half when Drew Holman made a dribble play from his right to left. After dancing past three Polar Bear defenders he hammered home a shot into the top-right corner.

  • Soon after, Coby Stover gave the Cardinals the lead after an ONU field player saved a header from Gabe Sharrock. Before anyone inside of Memorial Stadium could take a breath, Stover buried the rebound into the net.

  • The Polar Bears would bring things even just 1:03 later after an ONU shot ricocheted off the post and into no-man land. Standing all alone was Levi King, who, in the chaos, was able to bury home a shot into the far-left side of the goal.

  • Neither side could find a game-winning goal, even after 20 extra minutes, despite both sides each taking three more shots.

  • The Cardinal's best chance came as time expired in the second overtime when Sharrock's last-ditch-effort was denied by ONU's John Lombardo, who made four saves in 110-minutes.
