Cardinals Escape Marietta With a Win

MARIETTA, Ohio- Despite a weather delay midway through the first half that lasted nearly two hours, the No. 15-ranked Cardinals still found a way to earn an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) victory on the road.

The Cards, now 8-0-2 on the season, have made a habit of scoring late to keep their unbeaten streak alive. Otterbein has tallied an equalizing and/or winning goal down the stretch in four of the past five matches.

THE DETAILS:
  • After 30 minutes of action, lightning in the area forced both sides into the locker room early.

  • Following a quick re-warm-up, they played to a scoreless draw when both sides hit the field for the remaining 15 minutes of the half.

  • The Cardinals gained a significant man-up advantage in the 77th minute when Marietta was dealt a red card.

  • With the score unchanged late in the 79th minute, Otterbein finally broke through on the man-up when Will Isaac fed a pass to Joshua Conroy for the only score of the night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Cardinal offense produced 15 shots compared to just five for the Pioneers.

  • Otterbein had won five straight against the Pioneers before a 1-0 (OT) loss last spring… The Cards are now 6-1 against the Pioneers since 2016.

UP NEXT:

Otterbein will return home to the friendly confines of Memorial Stadium on Saturday for a 2 p.m. kickoff with Baldwin Wallace.
