WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein men's soccer kicked off its 2021 spring campaign Sunday afternoon, taking down the visiting Mount Union Purple Raiders, 3-1.
Each team took some time to knock the rust off in the first half, with all four goals coming in the second frame.
The two sides played to a draw throughout the first 45 minutes, both saw good scoring chances throughout but the keepers kept a clean sheet.
The Cardinals finally broke through in the 57th minute after a Mount Union foul in the box led to a
Nathan Neal goal on the penalty kick. Mount answered in the 77th minute with a penalty kick goal of their own.
Four minutes later it was the speedy
Paul Hensley who corralled a ball and made a push, he sent a pass across the box that found
Will Isaac who buried it off his right foot.
Isaac scored his second of the day in 85th minute after Neal sent a high arching pass in from near midfield. The ball bounced around the Raiders defense and eventually found the back of the net to give the Cardinals the 3-1 advantage.
Andrew McIlvoy played the full 90 for Otterbein between the pipes, making four saves and allowing the lone goal on a penalty kick.
