WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein and Muskingum met for more Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) softball action on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, but it was the Muskies who collected two victories on the day.
Muskingum won the first game by a final of 4-0, and scored a run late in the second game to earn a 5-4 win. Otterbein is now 7-5 overall on the year, and 4-4 in OAC play. Muskingum brings their record to even at 6-6 now, and 5-3 in OAC action.
GAME ONE:
- Muskingum jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning after a couple of Cardinal errors left runners on base.
- The Muskies added two more runs in the third when a ball fell out of the glove of Macy Allen against the left field wall after a spectacular effort to track it down.
- Otterbein loaded the bases twice but failed to bring across a runner on just four hits in the game.
- Brook Crosby was handed her first loss of the season after a 3-0 start to her freshman campaign. She pitched all seven innings giving up six hits while recording six strikeouts and allowing just two walks.
GAME TWO:
- Otterbein seemed to have finally cracked Muskie pitching when Allen launched her second grand slam of the season in the first inning.
- The Muskies answered in the third with a single and a triple strung together to make it a 4-3 game. Haley Hawk brought home Karsyn Shaffer with a single up the middle after her triple to tie the game up.
- Shaffer did more damage to Cardinal pitching in the sixth bringing the winning run around to score with her third hit of the day.
- The Cardinals once again loaded the bases but failed to bring home a run after Hannah Duff pitched her way out of the jam.
- Jess Gunter took the loss after seven innings of work that saw her strike out six batters.
