ALLIANCE, Ohio – Mount Union showed why its currently the first-place team in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Sunday afternoon, handing Otterbein a pair decisive of losses. The Cards held an early lead in game one before falling 12-4, and Mount Union ended game two in five with an 11-2 victory.
The Purple Raiders are now 14-2 overall and 11-1 in OAC play while the Cardinals stumble to 8-8 and 5-7 in OAC action.
GAME ONE:
The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead but the Raiders answered in their half of the first inning, knotting it back up. Otterbein climbed back in front in the third with a
Hannah Dobrinick RBI double followed by an
Isabelle Fisher RBI single. Mount Union flexed its muscle at the plate in the third and fifth, eventually taking a commanding 10-3 lead.
Mount Union gave up another run to the Cards on a passed ball but added two more runs in the fifth to take game one, 12-4.
GAME TWO:
Similar to game two yesterday the Purple Raiders jumped all over the Cardinals in the first inning, taking an 8-0 lead out of the gate.
Savannah McCoppin earned an RBI in the second after taking a walk with the bases loaded. The Raiders added three more runs in the second and third to pull away at 11-1.
Kendall Sestili hit her first collegiate home run in the fifth during a pinch-hit appearance, a solo shot, to cut the deficit to 11-2. Otterbein failed to bring across anymore runs in the shortened game.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Cardinals will regroup and welcome Baldwin Wallace to Westerville on Friday afternoon; game times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
