WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein softball collected two more wins on Sunday, knocking off Wilmington in game one 7-3 and winning in walk-off fashion in game two, 9-8.
GAME ONE:
- The Cards played long ball, doing the majority of their damage in the third inning.
- Sage Jenkins got the day started with a two-run homer off the side of the Clements center that plated Katrina Wierzbicki.
- Not to be out done in the same inning with the bases loaded, Macy Allen launched a ball over the left-center wall for the Cards first grand slam of the year.
- Otterbein added one more run in the sixth inning with a Maria Herron RBI single down the left-field line.
- Jess Gunter pitched a complete game allowing 10 hits and struck out seven to earn her first win of the season.
GAME TWO:
- The Quakers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first.
- Otterbein answered in its half inning with a leadoff double from Wierzbicki, who eventually came around to score on a Hannah Dobrinick RBI single. Dobrinick came around to score after Caroline Heller put a ball in play.
- Wilmington added two more in the second on a home run.
- Wierzbicki answered in the third with a three-run home run to left field.
- Otterbein tied things up at eight in the fifth inning thanks to a sacrifice from Wierzbicki.
- Jenkins walked it off for the Cards with a sacrifice fly to left field that plated Isabelle Fisher.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Wierzbicki had herself a day going 4-6 in both games with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in game two.
- Fisher came into game two in relief, she went 3 2/3 innings allowing just one run on three hits to pick up her first win of the year.
UP NEXT:
The Cards will enjoy some time off while they gear up for the start of conference play next weekend against John Carroll. Otterbein will play host to the Blue Streaks on Saturday; game times are set for 1 and 3:30 p.m.
