WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein men's soccer took a lead into the half for the first time this season but it was Wilmington who emerged victorious late, 2-1.
The Cardinals (2-3-1) matched the Quakers (5-1) fast pace throughout the game but two late scores coming just six minutes apart crushed the Cards hopes of a two-game win streak.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Cardinals saw a chance to take an early lead with a PK but the attempt from Nathan Neal rang off the crossbar at the 30:54 mark.
- Just minutes later Will Isaac sent a corner kick in from his right foot that wrapped its way around the post for the first Otterbein goal of the season in the first half.
- The score remained the same the rest of the half with each side seeing opportunities turned away.
- Otterbein held the lead well into the second half before the Quakers found the back of the net in the 74th minute.
- Elorm Dogbeby corralled a corner kick that bounced around and scored for Wilmington at 73:43.
- The Quakers scored the game winner in a similar situation just six minutes later off the foot of Vincent Kartengren.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Andrew McIlvoy was active between the pipes, making a season-high six saves in 90 minutes.
- Wilmington held a large margin in corner kick opportunities, earning 10 chances compare to just one for the Cards.
- The two sides were neck-and-neck in shots, with Wilmington holding a slight 13 to 12 advantage. Eight of the Quakers shots were on frame while Otterbein managed just two.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Cardinals will enjoy the weekend before heading to New Concord for a Monday night match with the Muskingum Fighting Muskies. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
