Cardinals Split Sunday Action With Wilmington

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – After dropping a pair of games Saturday afternoon in Wilmington, the Cardinals and Quakers returned to Westerville for more twin ball action.

Otterbein took game one, 1-0, and fell 14-10 in a lengthy (due to a rain delay) game two that saw a Cardinal rally come up just short.

GAME ONE:
  • Brook Crosby was locked in inside the circle, working her way out of a few jams to pitch a complete game shutout.

  • Sage Jenkins delivered the games only score with an RBI single in the fifth that plated Savannah McCoppin.

  • Crosby moves to 5-4 on her freshman campaign with the win.

GAME TWO:
  • With rain looming in the forecast the Quakers tried to end things early by jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead after the first inning.

  • Otterbein didn't waver though and battled back to pull within three runs at 7-4 after Erin Vonderwell hit an opposite field solo home run in her second plate appearance of the season.

  • With the score at 7-4 and the rain coming down steadily both sides turned into a grounds crew and quickly tarped the field for a 45-minute rain delay.

  • When action resumed Wilmington added four runs in the fifth to pull ahead 11-4.

  • The Cardinals answered in the fifth and sixth, scoring four runs between the two innings to find themselves trailing just 11-8 with plenty of chances at the plate remaining.

  • The Quakers did some more damage though, adding on three insurance runs.

  • Taylor Baran hit her first collegiate home run in the bottom of the seventh, a two-run shot high off the brick wall in left field, but the Cards couldn't add on to ultimately split day two with Wilmington.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Cardinals will stay home next Saturday for a pair of contests with Capital, game times are set for 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
