Cardinals Win Fifth Straight, Sweep Season Series with Marietta

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Men's Lacrosse picked up its fifth straight victory Wednesday night, this time in non-conference action, knocking off Marietta by a final of 19-4.

The Cardinals are now 9-2 overall this season, and still 6-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cards jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, blanking the Pioneers while scoring four times. The scores all came from a different Cardinal, including face-off specialist Eddie McDonald netting his first of the season.

Otterbein poured it on in the second quarter, adding seven more goals while Marietta was still held scoreless. Xander Seal scored twice in the quarter while Nick Wile scored his second of the first half.

Otterbein held an 11-0 advantage at the break with nine different players scoring.

The Cards scored five straight to open the second half before Marietta finally broke-up the shutout with 1:11 to play in the quarter.

Otterbein rested some starters in the fourth quarter as both sides found the back of the net three more times.

THE STATS:
  • Six Cardinals scored twice throughout the game, McDonald picked up his first and second scores of the season.
     
  • Xander Seal led the way with six points on two goals and four assists.
     
  • Otterbein peppered the Pioneers with 54 shots while holding the guests to just 11.
     
  • The Cards also forced Marietta into 27 turnovers, and held them to just 19 of 28 on clears while Otterbein was a perfect 15 of 15.
     
  • Eddie McDonald and Davis Tanaka dominated the face-off X all night. McDonald went 13 of 16 while Tanaka won five of his six attempts.
     
UP NEXT:
Otterbein will stay home and host Mount Union on Saturday, game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
