WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Otterbein Softball honored a well decorated 2021 senior class before Sundays doubleheader with Heidelberg. The Cardinals would go on to split the day with a 9-1 run rule victory in game one, and falling 2-1 after a late Heidelberg score in game two.

GAME ONE:
  • The Cardinals scored eight of their nine runs in the first two innings.

  • Macy Allen took a walk with the bases loaded to score the first run of the day.

  • Taylor Baran then doubled down the right field line that cleared the bases for a 4-0 lead.

  • Hannah Dobrinick and Savannah McCoppin each recorded and RBI single in the second inning, then Baran and Megan Payne earned a pair of RBIs by each taking a bases loaded walk.

  • Dobrinick hit a home run off the back of the Clements Center in left center in fourth to give Otterbein an eight-run lead, and the win, 9-1.

  • Jess Gunter earned the win with a six-strikeout performance in the circle.

GAME TWO:
  • Otterbein struck first in the third inning with an Allen RBI single to right field.

  • Heidelberg scored a run in the sixth, but more damage could have been done. McCoppin made a spectacular catch and doubled up the runner on third to get the Cards out of the inning.

  • In the seventh Otterbein appeared to have collected the third out on a close play at first. The next batter sent a ball into right field that brought around the winning run as Otterbein stranded a runner in the bottom of the seventh.

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Cards return to action on Friday, hosting Marietta for more twin ball action at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
