OBERLIN, Ohio – Men's Soccer collected its fourth straight win to open the season Wednesday night, this time knocking off Oberlin by a final of 4-2.
The Cardinals sit at 4-0 on the young season while Oberlin drops to 2-3-1 on its campaign.
THE MATCH:
- After collecting his first career hat-trick on Saturday night, Silver Abraham opened the scoring to give the Cards an early lead just 18 minutes into the contest.
Â
- Oberlin would eventually find their way onto the board in the closing minutes of the first half.Â
Â
- Nic Jandeleit beat Andrew McIlvoy for the score, just the second allowed by McIlvoy this season, in the 37th minute to force a tie heading into the break.
Â
- The Cardinal offense, which has been far more aggressive to start this season, retook the lead early in the second half when Gabe Sharrock collected a bouncing free kick in the box and buried it with his left foot.
Â
- Sharrock added on just under 10 minutes later when he scored his third of the season after beating a defender and outmuscling the goalie just inside the left post.
Â
- Coby Stover nearly extended the Cardinal lead in the 76th minute, but his right-footed shot went just wide of the post.
Â
- The Cards extended their lead in the 87th minute; after the initial two shots were turned away, Carter Ely was the man on the spot to finish the job for his first score of the season.
Â
- Oberlin answered 20 seconds later with another goal from Jandeleit to pull within two scores.
Â
- The Cards never let off the gas, though, and sealed up the win after two more quality scoring chances from Oberlin were turned away.
Â
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Cards held a slim 10-8 shot advantage through the first half but eventually ballooned that margin to a dominant 23-10 mark.
Â
- Of their 23 shots, 13 were on target, with four finding the back of the net.
Â
- The two sides each earned seven corners throughout the match, but Otterbein collected three yellow cards compared to none for Oberlin.
