DELAWARE, Ohio – Otterbein ran its unbeaten streak to 10 matches Tuesday afternoon just up the road, breezing past Ohio Wesleyan across straight sets inside Branch Rickey Arena.
The Cardinals, playing back at OWU after sweeping the Battling Bishop Invitational over the weekend, prevailed 25-20, 25-16, 25-17 in consecutive frames. Otterbein bumps its overall record to 11-2 this season as a result.
The Cards trailed 13-10 in the opening frame before kicking into gear, turning that deficit into 16-13 lead moments later and not looking back. Otterbein then led, 11-10, in the second set before a 10-1 scoring run created ample separation.
Otterbein led almost the entire third set as well, doubling up the Bishops (12-6)early and maintaining a semi-comfortable lead throughout. The offense continued to roll, hitting .405 in the second frame and a healthy .265 for the night.
Morgan Hartman tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs, while
Julia Vermilion had 12 ropes around the rotation.
Carlie Craycraft averaged 12 assists per set and ranks top-five nationally once again in this first month.
Emma Linehan added to the cause by going 5-0-11 in the middle. The Cards have now won nine of the last 10 matchups in the series with Ohio Wesleyan.
Otterbein, receiving votes in the latest AVCA national poll, will now have a full week off before launching Ohio Athletic Conference play at Baldwin Wallace next Wednesday night.
