GRANVILLE, Ohio - The No. 13-ranked Otterbein men's soccer club wrapped up its non-conference slate Wednesday night with a draw (1-1) on the road at nearby Denison. The Cardinals end the month of September unbeaten for the first time since 2001, when the team started 9-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Denison jumped out to the early 1-0 lead late in the 26th minute; Vitor Rocha scored his third goal of the season.
Â
- The Cardinals saw nearly every chance turned away in the first half, as only one shot of their five was on target.
Â
- Otterbein finally found the equalizing goal in the closing stages of the match... At the 86:45-mark, Silver Abraham roped a shot across the face of the Big Red goalie from the left side. Drew Holman collected the assist after the ball was knocked around by a handful of players on both teams.
Â
- Denison appeared to have won the match early in the second overtime, but the referee quickly waved off the goal.
Â
- Neither side could find a golden goal down the stretch of either extra session.
THE DETAILS:
- The Big Red out-shot the Cardinals 18-10, and only three were on target for the Cards compared to six for the hosts.
Â
- Andrew McIlvoy made five saves in 110 minutes of action.
Â
- Otterbein is now 3-0-1 against the Big Red since 2017.
