BEREA, Ohio – A handful of mistakes in the first quarter would put Otterbein in an early hole at George Finnie Stadium against host Baldwin Wallace, and the Yellow Jackets would play from ahead before eventually notching a 35-14 decision Saturday afternoon.
NOTABLE MOMENTS:
- Otterbein received the opening kickoff but fumbled on its first play of the game, and BW capitalized after running the ball seven-straight times from 31 yards out.
Â
- The Cards went three-and-out, followed by the Jackets scoring quickly while pounding the rock another six times. An interception near midfield then gave BW yet another short field, resulting in a third touchdown to create a quick 21-hole.
Â
- Otterbein got fairly deep into host territory twice in the second quarter, but fourth-and-long passes just before the red zone couldn't move the chains.
Â
- The Jackets were approaching the red zone midway through the third, but an impressive 97-yard interception return for a touchdown by Vincent Fisher put Otterbein on the board. He corralled an under-thrown pass near the right pylon and proceeded to avoid multiple would-be-tacklers, skipping totally across the field (toward his own sideline) before maneuvering his way in. The play marked a new school record for longest interception return, breaking the former best (of 92) set by Zac Guillozet back in 2012 against Capital.
Â
- Otterbein then forced a stop and was primed to retake possession, but a fumble on the ensuing put allowed BW a very short field before a TD moments later.
Â
- The Cards kept battling down the stretch and found paydirt a second time after backup QB Kaden Doup entered. A nine-play drive was culminated when Jordan Bost-Floyd found space up the middle and eluded a safety to dive/stretch over the goal line.
STAT CHECK:
- Otterbein's rushing trio of Bost-Floyd, Muhammad and Ahjay Cody teamed for 116 yards on 16 carries.
Â
- Damien Whaley caught five passes for 50 yards out of the slot, and now has 21 grabs over the last three contests.
Â
- The game saw a combined seven turnovers, including three interceptions for the Cardinal defense via Charlie Hornacek, Fisher and Tayon Howard.
Â
- Hornacek led all players with 12 tackles (including two for a loss) along with a forced fumble. Colton Doup added another 10 stops.
Â
- Adyn Snyder averaged 37.5 yards per punt across four attempts, including a career-long boot of 59.
Â
- Baldwin Wallace converted 15 of its 22 first downs via the rushing game. The hosts were also a perfect 4 for 4 on fourth down.

LOOKING AHEAD:
Otterbein will get back to Memorial Stadium and host its first game in nearly a month next Saturday, welcoming nationally-ranked Mount Union on Hall of Fame weekend. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m.
