WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein football team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup with No. 2-ranked Mount Union Saturday afternoon, as the undefeated Purple Raiders walked away with a 59-0 victory inside Memorial Stadium.

Mount Union, making the NCAA semifinals last year, improves to 8-0 this year and now plays John Carroll next week for the OAC regular-season title. Both teams currently stand 7-0 against the league after JCU routed Muskingum.

HOW IT WENT DOWN:
  • Otterbein only trailed 7-0 after the first quarter. The Cards hit a long pass from Eason Hardouin to Jayland DeSue on their opening drive before coming up short, and then safety Max Walden wrestled the ball away from Mount's Jaden Manley near the goal line to keep the score what it was.

  • The Purple Raiders kicked into gear with a huge second quarter, erupting for 35 points in the frame to blow the game open by halftime.

  • Otterbein had a chance to get on the board late after Gavin Edwards recovered a muffed punt, but a first-and-goal sequence would eventually stall as Mount preserved a shutout.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Mount Union finished with a 405-92 edge in total offense, with QB Braxton Plunk throwing 385 yards and five touchdowns.

  • Manley overcame that early fumble to enjoy a career day, catching nine passes for 140 yards and three scores.

  • Walden tied for a game-best nine tackles with three other teammates contributing seven each.

  • Adyn Snyder delivered a strong game at punter, averaging 42 yards per attempt and ripping off a long of 49.

HALL OF FAME:

Otterbein welcomed its 14th HOF class during a formal ceremony Saturday morning (at The Point) and then celebrated Glenn Aidt, Sylvia Alspaugh, Mark/Pat Anderson, Bob Gatti, Brian Hiscox, Jim McKee, Jack Moore and Lindsey (Russell) Gessner at halftime. READ MORE ABOUT THEM HERE
