Pataky earns honor of wearing jersey No. 5

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – With the 2026 season commencing on Saturday, fifth year senior Christian Pataky has been elected to wear the prestigious No. 5 jersey for the upcoming year. In its 21st season honoring former Otterbein football player Josh Worthington, the coaching staff selected the tight end for the honor. 

Worthington, a Grove City native and former Otterbein quarterback who wore No. 5, passed away on Christmas morning in 2004 after his vehicle was struck by a drunk driver. He is remembered for the hard work, dedication and commitment he displayed as a promising young player, and it is an honor and privilege to be selected by the coaches to wear his number. Those selected to wear No. 5 must be a respected player and demonstrate great character. 

"Christian is a fifth year senior who made the decision to come back for one more season, and that decision says a lot about his commitment to his teammates and to Otterbein football," said head coach, Dave Marquis. "He has worked extremely hard throughout his career, continued to invest in this program, and has earned the respect of his teammates and coaches through the way he prepares, competes and carries himself everyday."

"Being able to have the number 5 is truly an honor," said Pataky. "I came back for a fifth year and running into people who have played for Coach Marquis have only said great things about him … After talking with him and going over some things, it made me really want to come back."

Pataky earned All-OAC honors a season ago. He hauled in 18 catches for a pair of touchdowns, playing in all 10 games. He also added three scores with his legs and is primed for a memorable final campaign.

"Christian understands that wearing No. 5 is an honor and a responsibility. We are proud to have him represent Josh's legacy and carry on a tradition that means so much to Otterbein football," added Marquis.

Otterbein will kick off the 2026 season on Saturday with a noon kickoff against (RV) Calvin University.
