WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein Men's Cross Country program is gearing up to compete at the NCAA Championships for a fourth-straight season this coming Saturday, as the Cardinals will be one of 32 schools linking up in Michigan for the national event.
Otterbein landed fourth at the Great Lakes Regionals this past weekend, but its total body of work this fall still warranted an at-large spot to the meet at Forest Akers East Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich. Start time for the race will be roughly 12 p.m.
The Cardinals took 16th at this event last year with (now senior)
Cal Yackin earning All-American honors as a result of finishing in the Top 30. He was 18th of 294 competitors down in Kentucky.
This time around, in addition to Yackin, Otterbein will be sending
Gage Beireis,
Nathan Craft,
Bill Daily,
Jay Figgins,
John Nice and
Liam Walits as its seven-man lineup to toe the line. Figgins (a true freshman) will be making his national debut while all other Cardinals competed last fall in the customary 8K event.
John Carroll's Alex Phillip is the defending individual champ while Pomona-Pitzer claimed the 2021 team title.
In addition to the last week of competition, an entire handful of Cardinals in Beireis, Craft, Daily, Nice and Yackin earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors by virtue of a Top-35 finish at the Great Lakes event in Holland, Mich.
