DAVENPORT, Fla. – A wild and somewhat disappointing ending to the spring break trip occurred Thursday afternoon for the Otterbein women's lacrosse team, as the game against Wentworth Institute was unfortunately halted due to lightning early in the second quarter.
The Cardinals, leading 9-5 at the time inside Northeast Regional Park, were forced to call it quits at the 10:06 mark in order to make their flight back home on time. As a result… the matchup is declared a "no contest."
Otterbein was striving for a bounce-back effort follow Monday's 18-9 loss to Westfield State, as the Owls used a big first half at Countryside Sports Complex to create separation. They scored 13 times in the second half and kept the Cardinals at arm's length after intermission.
Emily Willms tied for a game-high four goals to lead Otterbein, while also leading all players with seven draws. Four other players also found the back of the net.
Maggie Nance came up with 11 saves in the cage, extending her streak of double-digit stops to five this spring.
Westfield, finishing with a 37-24 shot advantage, was paced by four goals from both Emma Cretella and Nicole Rinkus. Two others secured hat tricks.
Otterbein will venture back north and take on Ohio Wesleyan next Wednesday at 4 p.m. Â
