Cardinals Dominate Muskingum Behind Willms Record-Setting Performance

NEW CONCORD, Ohio- Otterbein Women's Lacrosse opened up Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play in dominant fashion, handing Muskingum a 20-3 defeat.

The Cardinals improve to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in OAC action, while the Muskies fall to 2-4, 0-1.

WHAT WENT DOWN:
  • After the first quarter, Otterbein held a commanding 9-0 lead; five different players scored.
     
  • Emily Willms opened the second frame with three consecutive goals, helping the Cards take an eventual 14-0 lead into the locker room.
     
  • The third quarter saw the Muskies get on the scoreboard, but not before the Cards could add two more onto the lead.
     
  • Otterbein outscored the hosts 3-2 in the final frame to walk away with an OAC victory.
     
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • Emily Willms had a record-setting day; her nine goals are a new single-game best. The previous high was eight by Katy Williams in 2017.
     
  • She also recorded an assist, giving her ten total points on the day, the second-most in a single game (Tory Blatt recorded 12 in 2012 against Waynesburg).
     
  • Seven different Cardinals scored in the game, while five recorded multiple score afternoons.
     
  • The defense allowed Muskingum to shoot just five times; Maggie Nance made two saves (one in the third and one in the fourth) in 60 minutes.

On Wednesday, the Cardinals will travel to University Heights for a 7 p.m. face-off with John Carroll.
