HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – As the new year began, the Track and Field team set off on a venture to compete in the Marshall Alumni Classic on Saturday. The competition was unscored but drew local participation from a variety of schools across different divisions, with action starting in the morning and going well into the evening.
On the Men's Side:
Attack on the Track Highlights:
- In the one-mile run, John Nice placed sixth in a time of 4:27 out of 39 others.
- Ian Chapman and Logan Dodd place ninth and 10th in the 600-meter run with times of 1:34 and 1:36.
- Jonny Powers and Gavin Kelly powered their way through the 800-meter run with a third and fourth -place finish just one second apart.
- In the 3000-meter run, Chase Jackson finished fourth (8:50) and not far behind was Cameron Christopher (8:51).
- In the 4x400 relay, Dodd, Chapman, Kelly and Swope finished middle of the pack in 3:41.
Notables In the Field:
- Freshman Richmond Honkpo secured the third position, recording a top mark of 23' 2¾" in the long jump.
- Sophomore Devon Bellomy shared second in the high jump, achieving a peak height of 6' 0¾".
- Brady Williams grabbed second place in the pole vault, achieving a top height of 13' 7¼".
- Colton Ruff placed 18th in the weight throw, achieving a throw mark of 39' 8½", and he claimed the 13th position in shot put with a throw of 40' 2".
On the Women's Side:
Running Highlights:
- In the 400-meter run, Brooke Hailton and Manaka Yamauchi placed back-to-back in the 10th and 11th spot.
- Tashe Lee and Kayla Bruce took the eighth (46.51) and ninth place (48.77) in the 300-meter run.
- Ava Stratmann, the lone Cardinal, placed 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:45.
- In the 200-meter dash, Olivia Finke placed 14th in 28 seconds.
- Abby Sidloski placing middle of the pack of the 3000-meter group with a 11:25 finish.
Out in the Field:
- Freshman Alexis Weber won the long jump with a mark of 17' 9".
- Emma Klosterman finished second in high jump with a height of 5' 4½".
- Peyton Proffitt, a returning All-American performer, placed third in pole vault reaching a height of 11' 3¾".
- Ravyn Goodson, retiring from long jump after the team's fun meet, placed sixth in the weight throw (44' 2¾") and tied for eighth in shot put (34' 0¼")
Home Sweet Home:
Next Saturday, the Cardinals will remain at home to host the Otterbein Invitational. Field events start at 10:30 am, with track events to follow at noon.
