ADA, Ohio – A tall order on the road ended up with Otterbein taking a 71-54 loss to the Polar Bears of Ohio Northern as league play continued Wednesday night, with ONU taking a steep advantage into halftime before both sides played about even in the second.
The hosts shot 16 of 25 at the free-throw line compared to just a 7 of 9 effort for Otterbein, which also committed twice as many turnovers. ONU held a 17-2 edge in scoring after those giveaways.
Ella Nagel had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds,
Kyla Irby and
Claire Radabaugh both scored a team-high 11, and
Maizie King also matched her teammate for a game-high 10 boards.
Brooke Allen and Brynn Serbin combined for 29 points on the home side, as Allen missed just one shot.
Ohio Northern held a 21-9 lead after the first quarter and then carried a 33-17 cushion into the break. Otterbein began the third quarter nicely and shrunk the lead all the way down to eight (39-31) midway through, but a 12-2 run by the Polar Bears ended the period.
The Cardinals will return home and look to finish the week on a better note, welcoming Heidelberg for tip at 1 p.m. Otterbein won the first matchup (82-74) season this year in Tiffin.
