Otterbein Breaks Loose for Dominant Win Over Heidelberg

PHOTO GALLERY (coming soon)

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – An absolute offensive explosion in the third quarter propelled Otterbein to a blowout victory in its Play4Kay "PINK" game against Heidelberg on Saturday at the Rike, as the Cardinals drilled shot after shot en route to a 94-55 final outcome.

Otterbein beats Heidelberg for the 12th-straight time in the process, shooting an identical 45.8 percent from both the field and behind the arc.

#PLAY4KAY:
  • The Cardinals hosted their annual "PINK" game in honor of former NC State head coach Kay Yow, who won more than 700 games until a battle with breast cancer took her life in 2009. Otterbein donned new pink uniforms and accepted donations to continue supporting and raising awareness for the disease. The benefit the cause, please visit this link below:
HOW IT PLAYED OUT:
  • Both sides traded buckets in a rather fast-paced opening half. Otterbein led 20-12 at one point before the 'Berg inched back to force ties at 22-22 and 24-24 early in the second quarter.

  • The Cards found a groove heading into the break, finishing the half on a 16-6 run after the deadlock to grab a double-digit cushion.

  • Otterbein morphed into the 2018 Golden State Warriors in the third quarter, posting a whopping 33 points and hitting all six three-pointers in the process. The team scored 18 points (behind a variety of shot makers) in under a five-minute stretch to bust the game wide open.

  • That surge allowed Otterbein to coast in the fourth period and run the gap to 40 at one point.

BOX SCORE NOTABLES:
  • Four Cardinals scored double figures and two others had nine points, with Katie McCrary scoring 22 on 9-of-13 shooting.

  • Maizie King just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Ella Nagel followed up her 10-rebound effort at Ohio Northern with a new career-best 11 this time.

  • The Cards held a 52-9 edge in bench scoring, 31-8 advantage in points off turnovers, and 50-26 margin in the paint.

  • The 94 points is the most in a game for Otterbein since posting a school-record 108 against Marietta during the COVID season of 2020-21.

  • Morgan Altenburger (11 and 10) had a double-double for Heidelberg.
