Scarborough earns berth in National Championships, powers Women's Cross Country to 12th-place finish at Great Lakes Regionals

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. - Otterbein sophomore Sarah Scarborough secured an impressive fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championship, earning All-Region recognition and punching her ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships as the women's cross country team posted a 12th-place showing on Saturday.

  • Hosted by Franklin College, the 6K Regional Championships meet was held at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Ind.

  • The top 35 finishers earned All-Great Lakes Region recognition.
  • The race served as the official qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championships meet, which is scheduled for Nov. 23 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The top team in each of the 10 region championship meets earns an automatic bid to the national meet while the remaining 22 teams will be picked at large. In addition, 70 individuals (the top seven finishers from each region who are not part of a qualifying team) will be selected to compete in the national meet. The 2024 Division III women's cross country selections will be released on Sunday on NCAA.com.

Race Results

  • The Cardinals scored 320 points and placed 12th of 39 teams.
  • DePauw won the region team title with 91 points to claim the automatic bid to the national meet. Calvin placed second with 94 points, and Trine was third with 109 points.
  • Wilmington's Faith Duncan won the individual region title, running a time of 20:58.
