BLUFFTON, Ohio – Scoring 11 runs in the first inning will make you victorious in most baseball games, and that was the case on Tuesday afternoon for Otterbein in a merry-go-round trip to Bluffton.
The Cardinals exploded for a double-digit scoring in their opening at-bat, and used multiple big frames across the day to ultimately post a marathon 29-11 victory.
A total of 14 batters reached the plate in that first inning, where 2-RBI knocks from
Gavin Wolf,
Noah Sprowls and
Brayden Quincel (home run).
Otterbein later held a football-like margin of 14-7 midway through the day, but erupted once again for 12 runs over the fifth and sixth.
The Cards registered 18 hits, walked another 18 times, and hit four round-trippers on the day.
Jamie Perebzak drove in seven runs and Quincel (two bombs) reached base all six times behind four hits and a pair of walks.
Otterbein implemented a whole-staff day on the mount, with
Jack Sprague being credited with the official W after tossing two innings. Many other pitchers saw the hill on a day where harsh winds prevented many effective curveballs, with
Jake Carfangia tossing a pair of scoreless frames to finish.
The Cardinals will have a few games later in the week, as a Wednesday clash at Ohio Wesleyan was pushed to Friday afternoon. Ohio Athletic Conference play is then set to begin over the weekend at John Carroll, weather permitting.
