WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was another tough night inside Memorial Stadium against a stingy defense for the Otterbein men's lacrosse team, which dropped an 11-2 contest with reigning OAC Tournament champ John Carroll in the rain.
The Cardinals trailed just 2-1 well into the second quarter, and then only 4-1 at intermission, before JCU pieced together a big third quarter and pulled away.
Dom Dean represented both of Otterbein's goals, the first coming on a heads-up shot after absorbing contact that would be called a penalty but soon waved off after he finished home. He then scored again midway through the third quarter to keep his club within 5-2, before a six-goal run from the visitors took place.
The Blue Streaks had a 25-11 edge in shots on goal and benefited from a six-point night off the stick of freshman Braden Zarek, who scored twice and dished out four helpers. Morgan Morrell scored four times for JCU.
JCU captured 12 of 16 faceoffs behind Levi Kinnan to retain possession, and Otterbein goalie
Luke Farthing did what he could on the backside in making 14 saves.
Otterbein will look to finish the week strong up in Tiffin, playing Heidelberg at a modified site of Columbian High School. Opening faceoff will now be 6 p.m.
