Patterson, Ely score goals as Men's Soccer falls to Ohio Wesleyan

WESTERVILLE — Junior Mitchell Patterson and graduate student Carter Ely each scored a goal as the Otterbein men's soccer team fell 4-2 to Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Records: Otterbein (2-3-0 overall), Ohio Wesleyan (4-2-0 overall)
  • Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio
The Game
  • Each team scored a goal within the first 15 minutes of the game. Patterson put the Cardinals up 1-0 when he found the back of the net just 10:15 into the game on an assist from Ely.
  • The Battling Bishops answered four minutes later with a goal to tie the score.
  • Otterbein sophomore Aidan Stratmann received a red card in the 43rd minute, causing the Cardinals to play a man down for the remainder of the game.
  • The teams entered halftime tied at 1-1 with Otterbein holding an 8-5 edge in shots.
  • OWU scored three unanswered goals to start the second half, netting scores in the 49th, 57th and 71st minutes for a 4-1 edge.
  • The Cardinals capped the scoring on a goal from Ely in the 86th minute.
  • OWU finished with a 16-13 edge in shots, while Otterbein had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
