Men's Soccer closes non-conference schedule with scoreless draw at Denison

GRANVILLE — The Otterbein men's soccer team closed out its non-conference schedule with a scoreless draw at Denison on a rainy Sunday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Records: Otterbein (4-3-2 overall), Denison (5-1-3 overall)
  • Venue: Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium - Granville, Ohio
The Game
  • A scoreless first half featured seven combined shots. Denison closed the first 45 minutes with a 5-2 edge in shot attempts, including 3-1 in shots on goal. The physical play in the opening half resulted in seven fouls called on each team along with two yellow cards on the Big Red and one on the Cardinals.
  • With 9:04 left in the game, Denison got off a shot that was saved by Otterbein freshman goalkeeper Jason Villalobos.
  • Denison's Miles Crosser and Andrew Nachtwey both drew red cards over the final four minutes, and the Cardinals attempted two shots over the final 1:30. A shot from junior Drew Boettcher with 1:06 left was blocked, and senior Hayden Vu's attempt with 38 seconds remaining missed high right.
  • Senior Nick Isaac led the Cardinals in shots with three.
  • Villalobos played all 90 minutes in goal for Otterbein and recorded four saves.
  • Denison out-shot Otterbein 11-6, including 4-1 in shots on goal, and finished with a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.
