DeCarlo posts double-double as Women's Basketball falls to No. 11 Baldwin Wallace in Play4Kay Pink Game

WESTERVILLE — Graduate student Kathleen DeCarlo led the way with a double-double as the Otterbein women's basketball team fell 52-42 to No. 11 Baldwin Wallace in Ohio Athletic Conference action in its annual Play4Kay Pink Game on Saturday.

Otterbein Stat Leaders
  • DeCarlo finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds in her first double-double of the season. She also had two steals.
  • Sophomore Kyla Irby made a pair of 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

Game Highlights
  • First Quarter: Baldwin Wallace opened the game with a 12-4 run. The tempo slowed down until Irby and Rawlings drained back-to-back 3-pointers, cutting the deficit to just one with less than a minute remaining in the quarter. However, the Yellow Jackets managed to sink a layup in the final second, closing the quarter with a 14-11 lead.
  • Second Quarter: The quarter featured four ties, with King starting things off by scoring back-to-back layups to give Otterbein the first lead of the game at 15-14. Baldwin Wallace responded with free throws to knot the score at 15-15 and again at 17-17. With under two minutes to go, Irby sank a clutch 3-pointer to bring it to 20-20. Baldwin Wallace closed out the quarter with free throws, edging ahead 22-21.
  • Third Quarter: DeCarlo opened the quarter with a jumper to give the Cardinals a one-point edge. Midway through, Otterbein stretched its lead to five, 27-22. In the final two minutes, the teams exchanged leads, with the score tying at 28-28 and again at 31-31, which held as the quarter ended.
  • Fourth Quarter: Rawlings started the final quarter with a jumper, giving the Cardinals a two-point edge, 33-31. Baldwin Wallace quickly answered, tying the game at 33-33 with free throws. The Yellow Jackets regained momentum, going on a run to build a seven-point lead, 41-34, with 4:55 left. Despite Otterbein's efforts to narrow the gap, Baldwin Wallace capitalized on free throws down the stretch to secure the 52-42 victory.
  • Key Team Stats: Otterbein shot 30.8% from the field and was 3-of-17 (17.6%) from 3-point range. Baldwin Wallace shot 26.4% from the field and was 3-of-15 (20%) from 3-point range. The Cardinals were 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the free-throw line, while the Yellow Jackets were 21-of-26 (80.6%). Baldwin Wallace out-rebounded the Cardinals by a 49-30 margin.

  • Irby has scored in double figures in 14 games this season and is averaging a team-high 14.4 points per game. She entered Saturday ranked fifth in the OAC in scoring average (14.6 points per game), first in free-throw percentage (88%), tied for third in free throws made (66) and tied for fifth in 3-pointers made (31).
