WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein women's basketball team is hosting is annual Play4Kay Pink Game on Saturday at 1 p.m. against No. 11 Baldwin Wallace.
The Cardinals will be wearing commemorative pink uniforms during the game while raising awareness and funds for cancer research.
The team has created an online
donation page where supporters can help raise money for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was officially founded on December 3, 2007, from the vision of the organization's namesake, Kay Yow, former NC State University head women's basketball coach. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 before succumbing to the disease on January 24, 2009. The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization committed to raising money for life-saving cancer research and underserved programs that provide access to quality cancer healthcare, and it unites people in the fight against all cancers affecting women. To date, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has awarded $8.78 million.
Play4Kay is the largest fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Yow envisioned Play4Kay games as platforms for survivors and thrivers nationwide as they continue to fight against cancer while raising money in the fight against all cancers affecting women. She saw these games as a way to encourage and give hope. These games are a way for everyone involved to honor the courageous women battling cancer and stand with them in their fight.
As a result of her own 22-year battle with cancer, it was Yow's vision to be a part of finding an answer in the fight against cancer. The Otterbein women's basketball team encourages its supporters and the community to join the Cardinals in the fight and give hope to a future without cancer by making a donation at the link above.
