Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 20 ONU sneaks past men's soccer

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Despite late chances, the Otterbein University men's soccer team saw its 11 game unbeaten streak come to a close, falling 1-0 to No. 20 Ohio Northern University.

Early in the match, the Polar Bears dominated possession. Two incredible saves by Jason Villalobos preserved the 0-0 score, but ONU continued to pressure the Cardinals. Ohio Northern got on the board in the 27th minute, proving to be the game-winner.

With five minutes remaining in the first half, Otterbein had its best look of the period off a shot from Aidan Stratmann. Stratmann launched a shot from far out, but ONU's Carson Zurmehly was just able to get a hand on and tip over the crossbar.

Otterbein had another decent look early in the second half, but Zurmehly corralled the loose ball in the box to keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard. With 10 minutes remaining, Ohio Northern had a great opportunity to double the lead, but Jayden Burdine – in his first minutes of collegiate action – made a beautiful save to knock the ball over the crossbar.

The Polar Bears outshot Otterbein, 18-12 and held a significant edge in corners, 8-1. Villalobos recorded three saves and Burdine tallied two.

Otterbein travels to Capital University on Saturday evening. The Battle for the Oar will commence at 7 p.m.
