No. 23 volleyball knocks off Heidelberg

With the win, the Cardinals earn a share of the OAC Regular Season title.

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – It was all treats on Halloween for the No. 23 Otterbein volleyball team, closing out the conference slate with a 3-1 victory over Heidelberg. With the win, the Cardinals earn a share of the OAC Regular Season title – the fifth for head coach, Monica Wright.

Lexi Scott's 14 kills led the hosts, while middles Chandler Crowell and Emerson Baum each ended the night with 10 kills.

Otterbein made quick work of the Berg in the opening set, winning by a 25-16 margin. Otterbein ended the set on a 6-0 run for an early win, but the Student Princes responded in the second set. Capitalizing on Cardinal miscues, the Berg used a late rally to even the match with a 25-21 victory in set two.

Both teams went on large runs in the third set, as lead changes and ties continued to flood the box score. Knotted at 23, a kill from Scott pushed the Cardinals to set point. Otterbein took the set, 25-23, following with a block from Scott and Crowell. In the final set, Otterbein withstood a late charge from the visitors to win 25-21. A solo block by senior Brooke Barb secured the match for the Cardinals.

Elise Adelman dished out 36 assists for the Cardinals, as Makenzie Schellenberger added seven. The duo were part of a stellar back row, as junior libero Ashley Kefauver led all players with 22 digs. Adelman (15 digs) and Schellenberger (14) were joined by Grace Ganz (10 digs), all registered double-digit dig evenings.

The Cardinals head to Cleveland tomorrow to take on Case Western Reserve. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
