Football falls to No. 2 Mount Union

ALLIANCE, Ohio – Taking on nation power No. 2 Mount Union, the Otterbein University football team dropped a 62-7 road decision to the Purple Raiders.

Otterbein scored its touchdown in the first quarter, courtesy of a long drive that spanned 17 plays. When the Cardinals were short on a third and 11, the visitors elected to punt. Aided by roughing the kicker penalty, Otterbein got the ball back at the Mount Union 38. Needing two yards on a fourth down at the Purple Raider six, Matt Griffin ran the ball up the middle for four yards to extend the drive. Two plays later, Christian Pataky ran the ball in for a touchdown followed by a successful PAT from Braylon Balandra.

Senior Zane Duning's eight catches for 67 yards led the Cardinal receivers. Griffin led the ground game with 52 yards and a score, as Brayden Bayles threw for 106 yards. Defensively, Otterbein was led by Ausar Imani's eight total tackles. 

Next Saturday, the Cardinals will continue OAC play with a home game against Baldwin Wallace. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. It will also serve as Otterbein's Military Appreciation and High School Bands Day.
