WESTERVILLE – The Otterbein University men's soccer team opened Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play Saturday afternoon, battling Mount Union to a 2-2 draw inside Memorial Stadium. The matchup marked the first meeting between the two programs since last year's OAC Championship.
Otterbein struck first in the 29th minute as senior Nick Isaac capitalized on a second-chance opportunity. After a blocked shot from freshman Lincoln Wallace, the rebound landed directly at Isaac's feet, and he buried the ball into the back of the net to give the Cardinals the early advantage.
Mount Union responded before halftime, converting a penalty kick in the 38th minute to even the score at 1-1.
The Cardinals reclaimed the lead midway through the second half when senior Patrick Ahrens connected on a header at the 61:43 mark. Senior Jacob Irani delivered a long ball from the 25-yard line, setting up Ahrens for the finish to make it 2-1.
However, Mount Union found the equalizer late, scoring in the 88th minute to secure the 2-2 result.
Final stat lines showed Otterbein holding a 13-10 edge in total shots, including four on target. Sophomore goalkeeper Jason Villalobos posted five saves in goal for the Cardinals.
Otterbein will return to action Wednesday night with a road matchup at Marietta.
