Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Strong second half leads men's basketball over Marietta

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Contributions from the entire lineup paced the Otterbein University men's basketball team to a 74-61 win over Marietta College. The Cardinals erased a seven point halftime deficit to pick up a crucial conference victory. Otterbein improves to 7-2 overall.

Jarius Jones led Otterbein with 14 points off the bench – 10 in the second half – on a 6 of 12 shooting performance. Senior Julian Heckman added his first career double-double, scoring 13 points and bringing down 10 rebounds, dishing out a game-best seven assists as well.

Otterbein led 22-17 with just over seven minutes to play in the first half before the Pioneers went on a run to close out the opening period. Backed by a pair of 3-pointers from Marietta, the visitors took a 38-31 lead into the half.

After a Marietta bucket, Micah Germany drained a three to spark a 9-0 Otterbein run. Germany's three was followed by baskets from freshmen Carter Piatt-Brown and Dominic Theado before a Heckman layup ended the run and knotted the game at 40. One minute later, a layup off the hand of Chase Garito gave the Cardinals a 45-44 advantage – one they would not relinquish.

Clinging to a two-point lead with 10 minutes on the clock, Otterbein went on an 8-0 run over the course of one minute that stretched the lead to double digits. Germany provided the dagger with a fast break dunk to help Otterbein move to 2-1 in the OAC.

Both Germany and Garito added 11 points apiece. Garito hauled in nine boards, as Theado added eight. The eight rebounds is a new career-high for Theado.

The Cardinals will host Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday as their final contest before the holiday break. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
