WESTERVILLE - Otterbein senior
Cale Callahan earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition in men's wrestling for the 2024-25 season, the league announced on Tuesday.
Callahan was named to the All-OAC First Team at 174 pounds, becoming the first Cardinal wrestler to earn First Team recognition since Drew Kasper in 2019. He is now a back-to-back All-OAC selection after earning placement on the Second Team at 165 pounds as a junior last season.
The conference selected one wrestler at each of the 10 weight classes for First and Second Team recognition for a total of 20 honorees.
Callahan is having a standout senior season thus far, boasting a 13-2 record with two technical falls and three major decisions. He posted a perfect 6-0 mark in conference duals and produced a seventh-place podium finish in the 174-pound bracket at the Wheaton (Ill.) Pete Willson Invitational.
Callahan is ranked No. 1 in the latest
NWCA NCAA Division III Individual Region 4 Rankings from Feb. 7, and he is No. 20 nationally at 174 pounds in the latest
NCAA Division III individual rankings from The Open Mat, which were released Feb. 12.
Callahan has competed in both the 165- and 174-pound weight classes in his career and has a combined record of 64-23, including a 14-3 mark in OAC duals, with eight falls, seven technical falls and 13 major decisions.
As a freshman, he was the Cardinals' primary starter at 165 pounds and finished with a 20-8 record, posting a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Division III Central Regionals and earning NWCA Scholar All-American distinction.
Callahan went 7-3 overall at 174 pounds and earned Academic All-OAC honors as a sophomore while battling injury and went on to add All-Region and Academic All-OAC accolades to his Second Team All-OACÂ recognition as a junior. During that junior campaign, he posted a 24-10 record and capped the year with a fourth-place finish in the 165-pound bracket at the NCAA Division III Central Regionals, falling just short of a bid to nationals.
