Men's Lacrosse opens 2025 season with loss to Albion (Mich.)

WESTERVILLE — The Otterbein men's lacrosse team opened its 2025 schedule with a 13-7 loss to Albion (Mich.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics
  • Records: Otterbein (0-1 overall), Albion (2-1 overall)
  • Venue: Memorial Stadium - Westerville, Ohio
  • The Cardinals were initially scheduled to open their season on Feb. 15 at Trine (Ind.), but that game was postponed March 2 due to inclement weather.
Otterbein Stat Leaders Game Highlights
  • First Quarter: Albion led 4-1 at the end of the first quarter. Rainone scored with 11:44 remaining to answer a game-opening goal from the Britons, and Albion responded with a 3-0 run to end the frame.
  • Second Quarter: The Cardinals and Britons scored alternating goals to open the second-quarter. Moore scored a man-down goal assisted by Graham with 9:53 remaining, and Dean added a goal with 6:40 left, to get the Cardinals within two, 5-3. Graham scored a goal assisted by sophomore Andrew Lewis with 2:29 left, and Nathan Lewis followed with a goal with 14 seconds remaining to send Otterbein into halftime trailing by just one, 6-5.
  • Third Quarter: Albion scored the first two goals of the second half, but Otterbein got back within one, 8-7, with 5:10 remaining after goals from Regruth and Jerdonek. Dean provided the assist on Regruth's goal. The Britons capped the scoring in the quarter with a goal with 1:48 left to take a 9-7 edge into the final period.
  • Fourth Quarter: The Britons extended that scoring run to 5-0 with four unanswered goals over the final 15 minutes en route to the 13-7 win.
  • Key Team Stats: Albion out-shot Otterbein by a 49-31 margin, and the Britons finished with a 27-17 edge in ground balls. Albion won 17 of the 24 faceoffs. The Britons had 14 turnovers to 16 for Otterbein.

  • Head coach Colin Hartnett is in his 16th year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 133-108 at the helm of the Cardinals.
  • Moore now has 119 career points on 82 goals and 37 assists.
  • Nathan Lewis now has 77 career points on 50 goals and 27 assists.
  • Graham now has 72 career points on 52 goals and 20 assists.
  • The series between Otterbein and Albion is tied 7-7 dating back to 2010. The Britons have won four straight meetings, including a 9-7 victory in Albion last season.
