Men's Lacrosse opens spring break trip with 13-9 win over Berry (Ga.)

DAVENPORT, Fla. — The Otterbein men's lacrosse team opened its two-game spring break trip with a 13-9 win over Berry (Ga.) in Florida on Wednesday. Junior Zach Mulligan recorded a hat trick to lead the way for the Cardinals.

Game Highlights
  • First Quarter: Berry scored the first three goals of the game, but the Cardinals answered with two of their own. Mulligan scored with 7:55 left, and Rainone found the back of the net on an assist from Lewis with 4:42 remaining. After the Vikings scored again, Otterbein got a goal from Regruth on an assist from Mulligan with 2:15 left to send the Cardinals into the second quarter trailing 4-3.
  • Second Quarter: A Berry goal made it a 5-3 lead to open the quarter, but back-to-back goals from the Cardinals tied the score with 8:28 left. The first goal came from Mulligan, while the second was courtesy of Wright on an assist from Regruth. The Vikings regained the lead, but Otterbein closed the quarter with two unanswered goals to take a 7-6 edge into halftime. Lewis scored with 3:30 left, and Regruth added a goal on an assist from Wright just 15 seconds later.
  • Third Quarter: The Vikings tied the score with 12:20 left, but Otterbein responded with back-to-back goals to retake the lead at 9-7. Rainone scored with 11:46 remaining, and Graham added a man-up goal on an assist from Dean with 6:52 left. The Cardinals answered a Viking goal to cap the scoring in the quarter, as Dean found the back of the net on an assist from Rainone with 1:33 left to send Otterbein into the fourth period with a 10-8 lead.
  • Fourth Quarter: The Cardinals extended their advantage to 12-8 with 5:57 left after getting goals from Mulligan and Graham. Berry scored with 3:25 remaining to cut the deficit to three, but Moore responded with a goal for Otterbein with 13 seconds left to seal the 13-9 victory.
  • Key Team Stats: Berry out-shot Otterbein by a 39-37 margin, and the Vikings finished with a 38-25 edge in ground balls. Berry won 17 of the 26 faceoffs. Both teams had 14 turnovers.
