Men's Lacrosse falls to Keene State (N.H.) to end spring break trip

DAVENPORT, Fla. — The Otterbein men's lacrosse team closed its two-game spring break trip with a 17-14 loss to Keene State (N.H.) on Saturday. Led by a five-goal outing from senior Carson Rainone, three Cardinals recorded hat tricks in the game.

Game Highlights
  • First Quarter: The teams combined for 11 goals, as Keene State ended the first quarter with a 6-5 lead. Lewis scored the first goal of the game, but the Owls responded with a pair of goals for a 2-1 lead with 11:27 left. Otterbein scored the next three goals, getting a pair of scores from Rainone sandwiching a goal from Lewis. Trailing 4-2, the Owls scored four unanswered goals for a 6-4 lead with 3:50 remaining. But the Cardinals got back within one on a score from Wright on an assist from Graham with 22 seconds left.
  • Second Quarter: Graham opened the scoring in the second quarter to tie the score at 6-6, but Keene State answered with a pair of scores for an 8-6 edge with 12:46 left. Graham tallied his second and third goals of the game to bookend an Owl score to get Otterbein within one. Lewis added a goal with 3:51 left to tie the score at 9-9 going into halftime.
  • Third Quarter: The Cardinals scored the first three goals of the third period . Dean found the back of the net on an assist from Graham and added another score following a goal from Rainone to put Otterbein up 12-9 with 8:35 left. The Owls came back with three unanswered goals to tie the score, but the Cardinals took a 13-12 edge into the fourth quarter courtesy of a goal from Rainone, his fourth of the game, on an assist from junior Zach Mulligan with 1:12 left.
  • Fourth Quarter: The Owls opened the final period with two consecutive goals for a 14-13 lead. Rainone tallied his fifth goal of the game to tie the score with 5:44 left, but Keene State closed the game with three straight goals over the final 3:59 en route to the win.
  • Key Team Stats: Keene State out-shot Otterbein by a 42-37 margin, and the Owls finished with a 37-31 edge in ground balls. Keene State won 19 of the 34 faceoffs. Both teams committed 17 turnovers.
