Softball drops doubleheader at Denison

GRANVILLE — The Otterbein softball team fell 11-2 and 8-0 in a non-conference doubleheader at Denison on Saturday.

The Basics

  • Sophomore Kennedi Endsley led the Otterbein offense with three hits and one steal.
  • Junior Rachel Miller had a home run, two RBIs and one run.

  • Denison scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, but Otterbein took the lead on a two-run homer from Miller in the top of the second.
  • The Big Red regained the lead in the bottom of the second, scoring four runs for a 5-2 edge.
  • Denison added five more runs in the bottom of the third and one more in the fourth en route to the mercy-rule win in five innings.
  • Denison out-hit Otterbein by a 9-4 margin. Otterbein committed one error to Denison's none.

  • Denison scored one run in each of the first two innings and added four more in the third for a 6-0 lead.
  • The Big Red plated a run in the fourth and one more in the fifth for an 8-0 edge to end the game in five innings via the mercy rule.
  • The Cardinals got runners on second and third in the second inning following a leadoff walk to Miller, a single to McVicker and a one-out sacrifice bunt from senior Isa Lewis but were unable to capitalize.
  • D'Antoni and Galownia hit back-to-back singles to start the top of the fifth and advanced to second and third on a sacrifice bunt from Endsley. But the Big Red got out of the jam with two straight outs.
  • Denison out-hit Otterbein by a 14-5 margin. Otterbein committed two errors to Denison's none.

  • Heller has 131 hits, 34 doubles and 75 RBIs in her Otterbein career. She is tied for fifth all-time in doubles.
  • Lewis has 86 hits, 47 RBIs and 28 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Named the OAC Rookie of the Year in 2024, Endsley has 63 hits and 26 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Miller has 59 hits in her Otterbein career. Her home run was her second of the season and third of her career.
  • Head coach Bruce Anderson is in his fourth year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 61-58-1 at the helm of the Cardinals.
