Sophomore Kyla Irby named CSC Academic All-District in Women’s Basketball for 2024-25 season

WESTERVILLE – Otterbein sophomore Kyla Irby was named to the College Sports Communicators NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Academic All-District Team for the 2024-25 season, the organization announced Tuesday.

The CSC Academic All-District Team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for Academic All-District distinction, student-athletes must be a sophomore or above in class standing with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.50 while meeting athletic participation requirements. In women's basketball, the student-athlete must have played in at least 90%, or started at least 66%, of her team's games during the season.

Irby, an exercise science major with a 3.51 GPA, earns CSC Academic All-District distinction for the first time in her career.

On the court, Irby put together a standout sophomore campaign in 2024-25, starting all 27 of the Cardinals' games and averaging 13.1 points and 2.1 rebounds in 31.2 minutes per contest. She led the team in made 3-pointers (46) and free throws (99) while shooting 33.1% from beyond the arc and 86.8% from the foul line. She added 31 assists and 16 steals to her stat line while shooting 33.4% from the floor overall.

Irby was among the league leaders in the Ohio Athletic Conference in several categories. She ranked third in free-throw percentage, fourth in made free throws, fifth in made 3-pointers and seventh in scoring average.

An All-OAC Second Team and Academic All-OAC honoree this season, Irby was named OAC Player of the Week on Jan. 6 and earned recognition as the Smokey Ballenger Classic MVP. She finished the season with 19 double-figure scoring games, including a career-high 26 points against Muskingum on Feb. 15.

Irby has played in 51 games, making 38 starts, in her Otterbein career, averaging 11.3 points and 1.6 rebounds in 27 minutes per contest. She has 575 points, 83 rebounds, 49 assists and 25 steals in her career while making 78 3-pointers and 159 free throws. Her career shooting numbers include 33.7% from the floor, 33.5% from 3-point range and 85.5% from the free-throw line.
