Baseball gets 6-4 win at Hanover

HANOVER, Ind. — The Otterbein baseball team traveled to Hanover (Ind.) on Wednesday and came away with a 6-4 victory.

The Basics

Otterbein Stat Leaders
  • Graduate student Jamie Perebzak led the Otterbein offense with two hits, one RBI and two runs.
  • Senior Zac Taylor tallied two hits and one run.
  • Senior Jake Brown had two RBIs.
  • Sophomore Nolan James posted one hit and one run.
  • Sophomore Brady Heagen earned the win on the mound in relief, and senior Noah Gruver pitched the final inning, recording two strikeouts and earning a save.
Game Highlights
  • Otterbein scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. One came courtesy of a Hanover error, and the other came on an RBI groundout from Brown.
  • Hanover tied the score with two runs in the bottom of the third inning and took a 4-2 lead with two more runs in the fifth.
  • The Cardinals plated a run in each of the sixth and seventh frames to tie the score at 4-4. An RBI groundout from senior Charlie Greenlief scored the run in the sixth, and an RBI single from Perebzak plated the run in the seventh.
  • Otterbein loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the ninth, and Brown hit a sac fly to put the Cardinals up 5-4. Perebzak later scored on a throwing error for a two-run edge.
  • Taking the mound in the ninth, Gruver struck out the first two batters he faced before allowing a single. He then induced a popout to end the game.
  • Hanover out-hit Otterbein by an 8-7 margin. Otterbein committed no errors to Hanover's five.
Notables 
  • Named the OAC Player of the Year and CSC Second Team Academic All-America in 2024, Perebzak ranks fourth all-time at Otterbein in hits (214), is tied for third in doubles (47), is tied for ninth in home runs (22) and ranks second in RBIs (181). Jim Allen (1986-89) is the program's all-time leader in RBIs with 189.
  • Senior Logan Ullom has 103 hits, 24 doubles and 47 RBIs in his Otterbein career. He has a team-high 31 hits and eight doubles this season.
  • Taylor has a team-high 18 RBIs on the season.
  • Head coach George Powell is in his 26th year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 618-430-1 at the helm of the Cardinals. He is six wins away from tying Dick Fishbaugh (624) for most coaching wins in program history and fifth all-time in OAC history. Powell is a six-time OAC Coach of the Year honoree and has coached the Cardinals to three OAC regular-season championships and six OAC Tournament titles.
