Three Cardinals record hat tricks as Men's Lacrosse defeats Wilmington 22-5

Senior Max Graham surpasses 100 career points in win

WESTERVILLE — Freshman Max Luther, senior Dom Dean and fifth-year senior Max Graham each recorded four-goal hat tricks as the Otterbein men's lacrosse team defeated Wilmington 22-5 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night. Graham surpassed the 100 career point mark in the victory.

  • First Quarter: Otterbein scored the first four goals of the game, getting two from Dean and one each from Graham and Andrew Lewis for a 4-0 edge with 11:39 left. Nathan Lewis answered a Wilmington goal, and Rainone followed another Quaker goal with one of his own to put the Cardinals up 6-2. After Wilmington scored again, Regruth and Rainone found the back of the net for the Cardinals to send Otterbein into the second period up 8-3.
  • Second Quarter: The Cardinals outscored the Quakers 5-0 in the second quarter to take a 13-3 lead into halftime. Luther and Graham tallied two goals each in the quarter to go with one from Dean.
  • Third Quarter: Wilmington opened the third-quarter scoring, but Otterbein came back with six unanswered goals. Graham, Dean, Luther, Nathan Lewis, Merrill and Regruth tallied one goal each in that span before the Quakers scored again with 3:25 left to go into the fourth trailing 19-5.
  • Fourth Quarter: Otterbein outscored Wilmington 3-0 in the final period, getting goals from Luther, Kennedy and Merrill for the 22-5 victory.
  • Key Team Stats: Otterbein out-shot Wilmington by a 50-27 margin, and the Cardinals finished with a 41-25 edge in ground balls. Otterbein won 19 of the 30 faceoffs. Otterbein committed 21 turnovers to 26 for Wilmington.
