Lewis' heroics lead Softball to doubleheader sweep of Heidelberg

WESTERVILLE — Senior Isa Lewis hit two home runs to power the Otterbein softball team to a sweep of Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday. Lewis hit the walk-off home run in the 7-6 win in the opener and added a grand slam in a 7-5 victory in the second game.

  • Lewis hit a home run and added two RBIs and one run.
  • Junior Rachel Miller tallied three hits, including two doubles, to go with one RBI, two runs and one steal.
  • Junior Caitlin Wilkins had two hits, including a home run, to go with one RBI, one run and one steal.

Game 1 Highlights - Otterbein 7, Heidelberg 6
  • Trailing 2-0, the Cardinals got on the board with an RBI single from Clark in the bottom of the second inning.
  • After Heidelberg added two more runs in the top of the third, Otterbein plated two of its own in the bottom of the frame via an RBI single from Heller and RBI double from Miller.
  • The Cardinals took a 5-4 edge in the bottom of the fifth after Miller stole home and Lewis added an RBI groundout.
  • The Student Princes took a 6-5 lead courtesy of a two-run homer in the top of the sixth.
  • Wilkins tied the score at 6-6 with a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.
  • After King got a 1-2-3 top of the seventh, Lewis led off the bottom of the frame with the game-winning home run.
  • Otterbein out-hit Heidelberg by an 11-10 margin. Otterbein committed one error to Heidelberg's three.

  • In the circle, King earned the win, pitching 3.2 innings in relief and improving to 4-0 on the season.
  • McVicker picked up her second save of the season after recording the final two outs.
Game 2 Highlights - Otterbein 7, Heidelberg 5
  • After Heidelberg scored a run in the top of the first, Otterbein answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame after loading the bases with two outs. Lewis followed with a grand slam for the 4-1 lead.
  • The Student Princes added three runs in the top of the third to tie the score at 4-4.
  • Neither team scored over the next two innings, but Heidelberg took a 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, the Cardinals loaded the bases with no outs via consecutive singles from McVicker, Lewis and Clark. Pfaffl followed with an RBI single to tie the score at 5-5. The Student Princes recorded two outs following a pitching change, but Wilkins came through with an RBI single that ended up plating two runs courtesy of a Heidelberg throwing error.
  • Trailing 7-5, Heidelberg put runners on first and third with one out, and the Cardinals turned to McVicker to replace King in the pitching circle. McVicker delivered, inducing a lineout and a groundout to secure the victory for Otterbein.
  • Heidelberg out-hit Otterbein by a 13-8 margin. Otterbein committed no errors to Heidelberg's two.
Notables 
  • Heller has 141 hits, 34 doubles and 80 RBIs in her Otterbein career. She is tied for fifth all-time in doubles and ranks ninth in RBIs.
  • Lewis has 96 hits, 55 RBIs and 29 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Named the OAC Rookie of the Year in 2024, sophomore Kennedi Endsley has 68 hits and 28 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Lewis' two home runs on Saturday marked her first homers of the season, giving her four for her career.
  • Wilkins home run was the first of her career.
  • Entering Saturday, McVicker was tied for second in the OAC in RBIs (23). Heller was tied for 10th in RBIs (18), and Endsley ranked fourth in steals (12). In the circle, freshman Evie Lehman was tied for eighth in strikeouts (33).
  • Head coach Bruce Anderson is in his fourth year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 66-62-1 at the helm of the Cardinals.
  • Otterbein is 22-13 against Heidelberg dating back to 2009 and has won eight of the past nine matchups.
