Softball falls in doubleheader at Mount Union

ALLIANCE — The Otterbein softball team fell 12-4 and 6-1 in an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at Mount Union on Wednesday.

  • Trailing 2-0, Otterbein plated a run in the top of the third inning via an RBI single from Heller after back-to-back two-out singles from Endsley and Wilkins.
  • The Purple Raiders added eight runs in the bottom of the third, which was highlighted by a 3-RBI triple, for a 10-1 lead.
  • The Cardinals responded with three runs in the top of the fourth, getting an RBI single from Sindledecker and 2-RBI single from Wilkins.
  • Mount Union plated a run in the bottom of the fourth for an 11-4 edge.
  • After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, the Raiders scored a run in the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule.

  • Otterbein got on the board in the top of the fourth after a one-out double from Heller, who later scored via a Mount Union error.
  • The Raiders extended their lead to 6-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth frame.
  • Miller hit a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, and senior Isa Lewis added a one-out walk. After a fielder's choice got Miller out at third base, Endsley singled to load the bases. But the Raiders made a pitching change and induced a flyout to secure the win.
  • Mount Union out-hit Otterbein by a 10-5 margin. Otterbein committed three errors to Mount Union's two.
Notables 
  • Heller has 144 hits, 35 doubles and 81 RBIs in her Otterbein career. She ranks fifth all-time at Otterbein in doubles, ninth in RBIs and tied for 12th in hits.
  • Lewis has 96 hits, 55 RBIs and 29 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Named the OAC Rookie of the Year in 2024, Endsley has 70 hits and 29 steals in her Otterbein career.
  • Entering Wednesday, McVicker was tied for eighth in the OAC in RBIs (23). Heller ranked sixth in batting average (.448), and Endsley ranked fifth in steals (12) and tied for fifth in runs (29). In the circle, freshman Evie Lehman ranked ninth in strikeouts (34), and junior Kiley King ranked 10th in ERA (3.50).
  • Head coach Bruce Anderson is in his fourth year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 66-64-1 at the helm of the Cardinals.
  • Mount Union is 22-13 against Otterbein dating back to 2009.
