Trio of hat tricks lead Men's Lacrosse to 15-10 win at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD — Three Cardinals recorded hat tricks as the Otterbein men's lacrosse team scored a 15-10 victory at Muskingum in Ohio Athletic Conference play on Friday.

Otterbein Stat Leaders
  • Sophomore Andrew Lewis recorded a career-high six points on three goals and three assists.
  • Fifth-year senior Max Graham and senior Dom Dean also recorded hat tricks, posting matching stat lines of four points on three goals and one assist.
  • Sophomore Jack Regruth added three points on two goals and one assist.
  • Junior Zach Mulligan scored two goals.
  • Senior Carson Rainone had two points on one goal and one assist.
  • Freshman Max Luther scored one goal.
  • Senior Nathan Lewis finished with two assists.

Game Highlights
  • First Quarter: Otterbein came out strong, scoring the first five goals of the game. Rainone opened the scoring, and Regruth followed with back-to-back goals assisted by Dean and Nathan Lewis. Mulligan put Otterbein up 4-0 with 6:51 left, and Andrew Lewis scored on an assist from Nathan Lewis for a 5-0 lead with 6:12 remaining. Muskingum got on the board with 5:11 left, and Andrew Lewis answered with a goal with just 12 seconds remaining to send the Cardinals into the second period up 6-1.
  • Second Quarter: Muskingum scored the first goal of the second quarter, but Otterbein answered with a 3-0 run for a 9-2 edge with 4:25 left. Andrew Lewis started that run, scoring on an assist from Regruth. Luther followed with a goal assisted by Andrew Lewis, and Dean added a goal. Muskingum scored with 1:55 left and trailed 9-3 at halftime.
  • Third Quarter: Down by six, the Muskies worked to close the gap with a 3-0 run to start the third quarter, making the score 9-6 with 9:16 remaining. But Otterbein put together a strong response with three goals of its own. Graham found the back of the net on an assist from Andrew Lewis and then assisted a goal by Dean. Graham capped the run with a goal with 6:28 left to put the Cardinals up 12-6. After Muskingum scored in a man-down situation, Graham netted his third goal of the quarter, assisted by Rainone, with just four seconds remaining to send Otterbein into the fourth with a 13-7 lead.
  • Fourth Quarter: Mulligan opened the scoring in the fourth quarter just 49 seconds in, and Dean followed with a goal assisted by Andrew Lewis for a 15-7 Otterbein lead with 11:25 left. The Muskies scored three consecutive goals over the final 4:25 en route to the 15-10 Otterbein victory.
  • Key Team Stats: Otterbein out-shot Muskingum by a 58-29 margin, and the Cardinals finished with a 36-30 edge in ground balls. Otterbein won 19 of the 27 faceoffs. Otterbein committed 20 turnovers to 19 for Muskingum.

  • Head coach Colin Hartnett is in his 16th year at Otterbein and has an all-time record of 140-114 at the helm of the Cardinals.
